Successful Portraits
To make a successful and compelling portrait, I think that a photographer needs to not only reflect the person’s features, but also character and personality.
Pose, gesture, expression and lighting are some of the elements involved in good portraiture. Environment is another factor. Things like composition, and exposure are very subjective, so it is vital to remember how important the viewer's perception is in this equation.
To pass on what a good teacher told me, “Duchamp once said something to the effect that art is only half completed when made. The other half occurs when it is transformed by audience reaction”.
I am willing to consider requests for portraiture commissions.
